At Dr. Arnoldo Anglada Dental Care Clinic, we work to help you achieve and maintain optimum periodontal health.
Our services include the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the tissues surrounding the teeth (periodontal disease). The two major components of periodontal or gum treatment are oral hygiene and plaque removal, where we clean out deep-seated pockets in the gum (deep scaling).
Periodontal Disease
What is Periodontics?
Periodontics is the branch of dentistry specializing in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions affecting the bone and gum tissues that surround and hold teeth in the jaw. Healthy gum and bone tissue is needed for healthy, strong and aesthetically pleasing teeth.
Periodontal disease is an infection caused by normally-occurring bacteria in the mouth. The bacteria are invasive in genetically predisposed people who lack strong defenses against them. They also flourish in people with inadequate oral hygiene, leading to the buildup of irritants such as calculus (tartar) and causing gingivitis (gum inflammation) and gum disease (periodontitis).
A Silent Disease
Periodontal disease strikes more than half of all adults, but most adults are unaware of it. Gum disease is often hard to detect, but it is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults over the age of 35. If left undetected, it can cause teeth to loosen and eventually fall out.
